Our
contact with Habib started by accident.
On the opening night of the Roberts
exhibition the painter Shulamit
Ashkenazi told me about her internet
connection with a painter from Algiers
who is trying link up with contact
artists from Israel.

Shulamit
sent me photos of Habib and his family,
poems he has written in French, English and
Arabic and a few of his paintings. His
desire to present his art in Israel, the
subjects of his paintings and the names he
gave them, convinced us that his artworks
should be shown. |

|
| |
In time we
made connection with Habib through the
internet, but the connection with him is
difficult and discontinuous. We talk to him
on Skype, or via other friends who Shulamit
is in touch with. Over a period of six
months, we have been collecting his poems,
photos and paintings, piece by piece. |
|
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
Habib does
not give names to all of his artworks.
Sometimes he calls them "abstract number 1,2
3" and so on. The paintings Habib did gave
the associative context on which this
dynamic exhibition was created. |

The
exhibition we present to you was created
after thorough sorting and in-depth
observation of Habibs work, in order to
find a common theme for all of the artwork
you see. Since our connection with Habib is
so discontinuous we can't know for certain
his thoughts and feelings in making this
artworks. We asked his permission to have a
free hand in collecting this
exhibition,combining his thoughts with the
feelings they inspired in us. This blending
formed the basis for creating the
exhibition. |

|
|
|

I was born
in Algiers in 1972. I graduated in
electronics from the University of
Constantine in Algiers. I design and create
fountains. I am married and have two girls,
Diana is 4 years old and Sophia is 10 months
old. My wife graduated from an art school in
Constantine and she teaches textile
painting. |

|
|
|
| |
I love to
write poetry and paint. |
|
|
| |
My
connections with Shulamit started
through
the skype. I found this woman very human. I
think that art and culture are a wonderful
way to bring people closer and to blur
negative relations. |
|
|
| |
I love
life. I love nice things. I love nice
people. I don't see religion, Christianity,
Judaism or the Islam, as an obstacle. |
|
|
| |
I wish
that we all could see and understand each
other through the eyes of art. I believe
that art can build bridges of love between
us all. |
